Gifted Intelligence Quotient Testing

Parents who are interested in their child attending various gifted programs must first determine if their child is qualified to meet the program requirements. Gifted IQ testing determines if your child meets these criteria. The most current Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V) is used in conjunction with supplemental tests (e.g. Woodcock Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities, Fourth Edition, NEPSY-II, etc.) in order to obtain clear evidence of giftedness. Most gifted programs including GATE, the Summer Institute for the Gifted at UCLA, the First Tech Challenge, the Davidson Institute, Mirman School, John Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth, Stanford University’s Distance Education Program for Gifted Youth, and Northwestern University’s Center for Talent Development, all require minimum intelligence scores on approved testing batteries and/or a full psycho-educational evaluation that includes additional insights to your child’s strengths and weaknesses in the academic environment.  

Gifted IQ evaluations can be tailored to your specific needs depending on the programs that you are applying to. Parents should expect to spend approximately 1 hour to complete the intake interview, 1-6 hours for your child’s in-person testing (depending on how many tests are required for gifted programs being applied to), and 1-2 hours for the feedback session to review the results. During the feedback session parents will be provided with a physical copy of the report with detailed explanations to submit to each program that they are applying to.
